Article: A Revolutionary Approach to Treating PTSD

Progressive approaches to working with clients who have experienced trauma deeply interest me. They interest me because, increasingly, they give the client more agency to express (and have authorship) over their experience while downplaying the traditional authoritarian role of the therapist.

An article in a recent New York Times Magazine by Jeneen Interlandi profiles the work of Bessel van der Kolk, one of the leading figures in working with the connection between experience, memory, and the body.

It makes for a good read. I have recognized van der Kolk’s name from other authors who have written about the connection between the mind and body (one of them being Babette Rothschild). It is a field that I am paying close attention to.

You can read the article here.
